Odisha is playing a key role in revolutionizing the millets industry in India. With the first export of millets to the UAE, Odisha has opened a new market for farmers and demonstrated the potential of these ancient grains as a sustainable and nutritious food source.
The State government, through the efforts of Mission Shakti and Odisha Millets Mission, is promoting the cultivation and consumption of millets in the state. This has led to an increase in the cultivation of the minor cereals, and the first consignment of millets was exported from Odisha on January 25.
Shaktimayee Mahasangh promoted by Mission Shakti and Odisha Millets Mission exported a variety of minor cereals cultivated in Odisha. Development Commissioner-cum-Agriculture Production Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena flagged off the vehicle transporting the cereals for export.
Attending a one day workshop-cum-minor cereal export programme, organised by DA&FE and APEDA, at Institute On Management Of Agricultural Extension (IMAGE), Jena requested APEDA officials to export other agricultural produce of Odisha along with minor cereals.
