In a bid to reflect on the journey of the state since 1936 till date and prepare a roadmap for transforming Odisha into a prosperous state, the Orissa Economics Association (OEA) in collaboration with the Department of Analytical and Applied Economics, Utkal University and School of Humanities and Social Sciences, NISER Bhubaneswar successfully conducted OEA’s Odisha Vision 2036 Conclave on January 12, 2023 at MKCG Auditorium in varsity. With the kind consent and blissful presence of Honourable Governor of Odisha Professor Ganeshi Lal and students very own vice-chancellor of Utkal University Professor Sabita Acharya; the inauguration began at 11 am.
Lal began the speech in Odia with Jai Jagannath focussing on his discussion with Bollywood actress Dia Mirza regarding Odisha’s rich culture comparing it with the satisfaction after reaching moon. The state which empowers women beginning from festivals like Rajotsav and Manabhajan.
Wishing all a happy new year, Vice-chancellor informed that UGC selected the department of Applied Economics for Teachers fellowship in 1977. “I hope the detailed history and economy to be presented in next three days will give a viable roadmap for Odisha to realize it’s true potentials”, aspires Acharya.
OEA Secy Dr. Amarendra Das welcomed with his humble speech mentioning that document engages several scholars, practitioners and policy makers to prepare around 26 chapters on a range of themes. President of OEA Professor Keshab Das thanked the dignitaries for gracing the event prioritising the importance of economic studies in today’s arena seeking Vice-chancellor and Chancellor’s guidance.
Mitali Chinara, noted Professor Of Utkal University chaired the Panel discussion I on ‘Development Perspectives Of Odisha.’ This session kick started with presence of acclaimed PTI Editor Rajesh Mahapatra, honourable MPs Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka and Dr. Amar Patnaik.
The second panel discussion flourished under the chairmanship of renowned Professor Dharmabrata Mohapatra from Ravenshaw University in presence of former finance minister Panchanan Kanungo, Editor of esteemed daily ‘Dharitri’ and ‘Orissa Post’ Tathagata Satpathy along with honourable MLA Soumyaranjan Patnaik.
Dr. Himanshu Sekhar Rout, HoD, A&A Eco, Utkal University was glad to organize a such an applauding event where everyone’s participation took the work ahead.
A number of eminent personalities along with faculties and students of varsity attended this conclave as panelist and participants. Based on the learnings from the OEA’s Odisha Vision 2036 Conclave authors will revise their chapters for a final round of editing and updating. Following submission, OEA is planning to organize another public event to release the volume, hopefully on April 1, 2023.
