Bhubaneswar: Trouble mounted for Ollywood actress Riya Dey and her husband after Bidanasi police registered a case against them for torturing their woman domestic help physically and mentally.
The domestic help, a resident of Chandrasekharpur in Bhubaneswar, lodged a complaint at Chandrasekharpur police on Wednesday. She alleged in her complaint that Riya and her husband were abusing and assaulting her in their house.
A young woman had been working as a caretaker in their house for one and a half years. According to the complaint, Riya and her husband used to assault the maid. She accused the actress of beating her with beer bottle in inebriated condition. Because of this, she could not walk properly. The actress and her husband often sent to the market to buy cigarettes for them. When they went out for some work, they used to lock the maid inside the house. The victim said that she had to spend days or two in the closed room.
Some social workers rescued her from the closed house. The victim lodged a written complaint at the Chandrashekharpur police station. As the incident took place in the Cuttack city area, Chandrashekharpur police station transferred the case to Bidanasi police station which registered the case under various sections and started investigation. Additional DCP Anil Mishra said that the victim’s statement will be recorded today.
Riya and her husband could not be contacted for comment.
On the other hand, Riya’s husband filed a written complaint at Bidanasi police station on the July 8. He alleged that the maid went missing.
Meanwhile, the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) took suo motu cognisance of the matter and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Bhubaneswar, Khurda District Labour Officer (DLO) and District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) to conduct a probe into the allegations and submit a report by July 25.
