Bhubaneswar: The percentage of Omicron cases may have recently risen in Odisha, said Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra on Monday.
He informed that while Omicron accounts for around 80 to 90 percent of the cases in some metro cities, the situation in the State is yet to be ascertained.
As per the last genome sequencing report of local samples, Omicron accounted for around 60 percent of the cases in Odisha. It may have increased recently.
Mishra, however, informed that presently below 2 percent i.e around 1400 people have been hospitalised out of 85 to 86 thousand active cases.
As the transmission rate of Omicron is high, the cases might explode at any moment, therefore people should stay alert, he added.
