Malkangiri: The district administration today ordered immediate assistance and rehabilitation for the four siblings of Dharampalli village in Niliguda panchayat in Padia block, in distress.
Following orders of Collector Vishal Singh, the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), District Social Security Officer and Block Development Officer of Padia went to Dharampalli and reviewed the situation.
In a story published on Saturday, Ommcom News highlighted the plight of these four siblings who were in a state of misery following the death of their parents. While two of their elder sisters were married, the other three had to take care of a specially-abled brother.
Speaking to Ommcom News, DCPO Narayan Das said, “After the spot visit, followed by review, we shifted the disabled child (one of the siblings) to the district headquarters hospital, where he will undergo medical treatment. On the basis of the reports of doctors, further rehabilitation will be planned.”
The eldest of them, Laxmi (13), is a student of Std VII, in Katamateru Ashram school. However, the other brother-sister duo were unable to go to school as they had to take care of the specially-abled member of the family.
“As their brother’s medical treatment has been appropriately planned and effected, we have made arrangements for the brother-sister duo to join the Ashram school and continue their education, along with Laxmi,” added Das.
During the visit, the BDO of Padia block issued ration cards to the siblings and assured them that other necessities will be facilitated by the district administration.
The move by the district administration was welcomed by the villagers who were a witness to the sufferings of the four following the demise of their parents – Sukra Madi and Muke Madi, two years back.
Laxmi expressed happiness and relief following the visit of officials. “After our plight was reported in media, the district administration was prompt to help us. My brother will get medical treatment and my brother and sister will go to school. We are happy today.”
