‘One Day, One Shift, One Paper’: Odisha Aspirants Push For Recruitment Reforms

Bhubaneswar: Seeking greater transparency and uniformity in government recruitment, job aspirants in Odisha have proposed a “one day, one shift, one paper” system for competitive examinations, besides demanding the restoration of the waiting-list system and timely completion of recruitment processes.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the aspirants urged the state government to bring reforms in the recruitment system and direct all recruitment agencies, including the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC), Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC), Odisha Sub-Ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) and State Selection Board (SSB), to conduct examinations through the offline/OMR mode wherever feasible.

The aspirants said conducting examinations over multiple days or shifts can lead to variations in the difficulty level of question papers, creating concerns over fairness and equal opportunity for candidates.

To address the issue, they proposed a system under which all candidates would appear for an examination on the same day, in a single shift and with the same question paper.

The demands come amid recent protests in neighbouring Bihar and Jharkhand over transparency and alleged irregularities in government recruitment processes.

The aspirants also called for a regular recruitment calendar covering agencies such as OPSC, OSSC, OSSSC, Odisha University of Health Sciences Staff Selection Commission (OUSSSC) and SSB.

They demanded that recruitment advertisements preferably mention tentative timelines for every major stage of the process, including submission of applications, examinations, publication of results, final selection, document verification and joining.
