Baripada: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a woman after a pickup van lost control and rammed into a shop on National Highway 220 at Banadunguri village under Bahalda police station in Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased has been identified as Visherani Dutt, a shopkeeper whose shop was hit by the speeding vehicle. She was critically injured in the crash and was immediately rushed to Behalda Community Health Centre, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
According to preliminary information, the pickup van suddenly lost control and crashed into the shop. After the accident, the driver of the vehicle fled from the spot.
On receiving information, Bahalda police reached the spot, seized the pickup van, and initiated further investigation. A case has been registered and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding driver.
