Kendujhar: One person drowned while three others were rescued after being swept away by a sudden flash flood while bathing in the Sita River under Manoharpur Panchayat in the Ghatgaon police station limits of Kendujhar district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Nikki Nayak, a resident of Laxmiposi village. The three rescued persons are Biranchi Nayak, Basanta Nayak, and Ajit Nayak, all from the same locality.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the group had gone to the river for bathing. A sudden rise in the water level led to a flash flood, sweeping all four away. While three of them managed to swim to the riverbank and escape, they later realized that Nikki Nayak was missing.
They immediately informed the Ghatgaon Fire Brigade, which rushed to the spot and launched a search and rescue operation. During the operation, fire service personnel recovered Nikki Nayak’s body from the river.
The Ghatgaon police also reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.
