Nabarangpur: A fatal road accident occurred on Saturday when a bus and a truck collided head-on on National Highway-26 near Maidalpur Khadka in Papdahandi block of Nabarangpur district. The truck driver died on the spot, while more than 20 bus passengers sustained injuries.
The mishap took place when a local bus, traveling from Bhawanipatna to Jeypore, crashed into an oncoming truck. The truck driver was trapped inside the mangled vehicle and later extricated in a joint operation by the Fire Service department personnel of Kokasara and Papdahandi, along with Maidalpur police.
The bus was carrying 50–60 passengers. Police vehicles and ambulances rushed the injured to Maidalpur Public Health Centre.
Locals have highlighted that Khadka has become a frequent accident-prone zone and demanded preventive measures from the administration, including road safety interventions.
Senior officials, including Maidlapur IIC Bipin Kumar Kuldip, SDPO Satyajit Kandankel, the Nabarangpur RTO, and other police personnel, were present at the accident site to oversee rescue and relief operations.
