Keonjhar: A tragic road accident in Kuanr village, under Kanjipani police limits in Banspal block of Keonjhar district on Tuesday, claimed the life of a 25-year-old man, identified as Ramesh Barik, and left another youth seriously injured.
According to reports, Ramesh and his companion Lipu Barik were returning home from the weekly market at Kanjipani on a motorcycle when an unidentified vehicle hit them near Mangala Temple Square in Kuanr. The force of the collision threw both riders off the bike.
Ramesh, who was riding the motorcycle, died on the spot, while Lipu, the pillion rider, sustained critical injuries.
Locals rushed to the scene and quickly arranged for an 108 ambulance, which transported Lipu to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, seized the body and the damaged vehicle, registered a case, and launched an investigation to trace the vehicle responsible for the fatal hit-and-run.
The incident has sparked grief in the local community, with demands for better traffic enforcement and lighting in accident-prone zones.
