Bhubaneswar: The death toll in the firecracker blast in Nayagarh district rose to three after another injured person succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Hadibandhu Sethi, a resident of Korada village and owner of the firecracker unit where the explosion occurred. Earlier, two labourers — Niranjan Nahak of Korada and Bapuni Nahak of Mina Gadiya — had died during treatment.
The blast took place on April 3 (Friday) at Korada village under Nuagaon police limits while firecrackers were being prepared for the ‘Dasapalla Lankapodi Yatra’. At least six persons, including a minor boy, sustained severe burn injuries in the incident.
Following the explosion, fire services and police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a primary health centre at Nuagaon. Five of them were later moved to the District Headquarters Hospital and subsequently referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.
According to reports, three injured persons are still undergoing treatment at the institute. While one of them is stated to be stable, the condition of the other two remains critical.
