Bhubaneswar: In yet another concerning development, one more prisoner has tested positive for HIV in the Jharpada Central Jail, pushing the total number of HIV-infected inmates in the facility to nine.
According to reports, the accused was arrested by Khandagiri police on Thursday and was forwarded to court. He was later sent to Jharpada Jail for judicial custody. As per standard jail protocol, a mandatory health check-up and medical screening were conducted before his entry into the prison. During this screening, the inmate tested positive for HIV.
Prior to this incident, eight prisoners in the jail were already identified as HIV positive. With the new case, the total has now increased to nine.
Jail authorities informed that the newly detected HIV-positive inmate, like others, will receive proper medical treatment, counselling, and regular health monitoring as per the guidelines issued by the State Health Department. Regular health check-ups and awareness programmes are also being continued inside the jail premises.
