Bhubaneswar: Amidst the scorching heatwave, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has confirmed that one suspected death has been reported from Balangir district, while no such reports have been received from other districts.
Pujari highlighted that the government has been prioritising zero casualties and has taken adequate measures to mitigate the impact of the heatwave.
He attributed the lower number of casualties to the proper implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and increased awareness among the public.
Minister Pujari also compared the current situation with last year’s heatwave. “Last year, 26 deaths were reported from Jharsuguda district due to the heatwave. However, so far this year, no deaths have been reported from Jharsuguda. One suspected death has been reported from Balangir district, while no such reports have been received from other districts.”
Minister Pujari also emphasised that the government’s efforts have yielded positive results, with no major incidents reported so far.
The government has taken proactive measures to prevent heat-related casualties, including awareness campaigns and the provision of necessary facilities to vulnerable populations.
