Balasore: A 20-year-old youth from Kirtinia village under Bhogarai police limits in Balasore district tragically ended his life on Thursday evening, reportedly following a scolding from his mother over his addiction to online gaming.

The deceased, identified as Anand Mirdha, son of Purnachandra Mirdha, was found hanging from a mango tree near his home with a rope around his neck.

According to family members, Anand had been engrossed in online gaming for an extended period on the evening of the incident. Despite repeated efforts by his family to curb his gaming habit, which had persisted for over a year, Anand continued to play, leading to tensions at home. Following a confrontation with his mother, he was later found dead by family members who initiated a search when he went missing.

On being informed Bhogarai police arrived at the scene and seized Anand’s body.

The police upon seizing Anand’s body registered a case, and sent the body for a postmortem at the Jaleshwarapur Community Health Center. After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the family.

This tragic incident has raised concerns about the impact of gaming addiction on young individuals, highlighting the need for awareness and support to address such issues.
