Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) has been honoured with the SKOCH Silver Award in the Power & Energy category. This prestigious recognition celebrates the organisation’s project on drone-based EHV Transmission Corridor Monitoring, reflecting its continuous commitment to technological innovation and excellence in the energy sector.

BB Mehta, Director (SLDC), and Priyadarsan Patra, CGM (IT), received this prestigious award on behalf of OPTCL. According to a press communiqué issued by OPTCL, this achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering dedication of the entire team as together they are driving the future of sustainable power transmission.

Hemant Sharma, IAS, Principal Secretary, Energy Department, congratulated the OPTCL team for bringing this laurel of the SKOCH Award to OPTCL and encouraged them to continue this spirit in future assignments.

Recognised as one of the best transmission utilities in India, OPTCL boasts an extensive network of 16,512 circuit km of transmission lines. It efficiently covers 195 grid substations with a substantial transformation capacity of 26,376 MVA. OPTCL’s commitment to excellence is reflected in its impressive 99.98% availability, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted power transmission across the region.

OPTCL drones capture high-resolution RGB and thermal images and videos of every tower and line span from multiple angles. These images provide comprehensive data that, when processed through AI-enabled image analysis, reveal potential faults and vulnerable points along our power lines.

Using cutting-edge AI algorithms, OPTCL meticulously examines every detail captured by the drones. The AI identifies anomalies such as overheating components or structural weaknesses that could lead to failures.
