Cuttack: A section of the parapet at Cuttack’s Shishu Bhawan, a pediatric healthcare facility, collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the city this afternoon.
According to reports, the collapse occurred due to heavy rainfall, which weakened the structure. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as there were no people in the vicinity at the time of the incident. However, several vehicles parked near the wall were damaged due to falling debris.
However, the collapse incident has raised concerns about the quality of construction, as the complex was recently inaugurated. Eyewitnesses claim that the collapse of some portion of the parapet could have resulted in loss of life if people had been present in the area.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary of the Works Department Sanjay Singh expressed concern over the incident, stating that a team would be sent to identify the defects and quality issues, if any. All corrective measures would be taken up on an urgent basis.
