Orange & Yellow Alerts Issued: Hailstorms, Thunderstorms Likely In Odisha Till Mar 26

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warning for several districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail, and gusty winds till March 26.

As per IMD’s prediction for March 20, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and hail along with gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 50-60 kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamal and Ganjam districts. These districts are under orange alert.

Additionally, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Rayagada and Malkangiri districts are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) tomorrow. These districts have been issued yellow alert.

For March 21, IMD prediction reads: “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and hail along with gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 50-60 kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundergarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur.” Orange alert has been issued for these districts.

Moreover, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Koraput and Malkangiri have been issued yellow warning. These districts are likely to experience thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph).

Going by March 22 forecast, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and hail along with gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 50-60 kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jajpur. These districts are under yellow alert.

“Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundergarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack”, read IMD prediction for same day.

March 23, IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Jajpur. The weather office has issued yellow alert for these districts.

For March 24, IMD’s midday bulletin forecast reads: “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangapur”.

For March 25, the regional weather office has predicted thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar. These districts have been issued yellow warning.

For March 26, IMD prediction reads: “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.”
