Kataka: The Orissa High Court has deferred the hearing of the regular bail application of suspended Choudwar Circle Jail Senior Superintendent Sujit Kumar Raul, with the matter likely to come up next week.
A single-judge bench of Justice Aditya Kumar Mohapatra, hearing Raul’s bail plea, has directed the state government to produce the case diary and apprise the court of the latest status of the investigation at the next hearing.
Earlier, on August 29, the High Court had rejected Raul’s anticipatory bail application. He was subsequently arrested by Choudwar police on September 21 and produced before a court.
After his bail plea was rejected by the Tangi-Choudwar Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court, Raul approached the Sessions Court. However, his plea was turned down by the Additional Sessions Judge, Kataka, who also functions as the Special Vigilance Court, on September 30. He subsequently moved the High Court seeking regular bail.
The case stems from a complaint lodged by the former Jailer of Choudwar Circle Jail at Choudwar police station following the escape of two dreaded prisoners. The complaint accused Raul of tampering with official records and committing criminal misconduct while discharging his official duties.
One of the specific allegations was that the Jailer’s signature had been forged in the ‘Superintendent Minute Book’ on October 2, 2025.
