Cuttack: Durga Prasad Mohanty, husband of Manorama Mohanty and Chairman of Narla Block, has secured interim protection from the Orissa High Court in connection with a criminal case registered at Narla Police Station.

A single bench of Justice R.K. Pattnaik granted Mohanty protection from coercive action for six weeks while hearing his anticipatory bail petition. The court also directed the state government to produce the case diary along with the current status of the investigation.

The matter will be taken up again after six weeks for further hearing on the anticipatory bail plea.

According to case details, a complaint was lodged against Mohanty alleging that he issued a death threat and used abusive language against the Narla Tahsildar during a phone conversation on March 15. The alleged incident occurred during a discussion over a three-year-old land dispute between Balisinga and Salepada revenue villages, which reportedly escalated into an argument.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 296, 221, 224, 351(2), and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Following the registration of the case, Kalahandi police conducted raids at multiple locations, including Rupra Road, a farmhouse, and the official residence of the Narla MLA. Anticipating arrest, Mohanty moved the High Court seeking relief.

Advocate Manas Chand is representing Mohanty in the case.
