Cuttack: Chilika MLA Prasant Jagdev who was arrested by the police on charges of running a vehicle over members of the public and police, was granted bail by Orissa High Court on Friday.
Jagdev, currently lodged in Banapur jail, was granted interim bail by the High Court for seven days on health grounds.
On March 12, Jagdev drove an SUV into a crowd near Banapur block office, where he faced a protest. As the police insisted Jagdev leave the spot, he drove forward, and in the process ran the vehicle over at least 15 people.
Jagdev was beaten black and blue by the public following the incident and was hospitalised in Bhubaneswar. Ten days later he was arrested by the police upon discharge.
