Malkangiri: Two orphan differently-abled sisters from Korukonda block of Malkangiri district of Odisha, who need adequate government support to live an acceptable and independent life, have recently lodged a grievance with the District Collector.
Brunda Kabasi and her elder sister Rukuna Kabasi have been living in hardship after the untimely death of their parents. They receive a total of Rs 1200 as disability allowance from the government and a total of 10 kilograms of rice from the panchayat every month.
As Brunda is bedridden and her sister is also disabled, they are unable to earn in any other way. They also face a lot of problems in doing housework. However, Brunda wants to live and study well.
Brunda has till date undergone four operations at SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack and steel rods are attached to her various joints. So he relies on painkillers and calcium every day. Due to financial reasons, she is unable to eat nutritious food.
While some of the philanthropists and social service organisations donate things, medicines and some money to her, it is not sufficient. Social workers Ram Krishna Chowdhury and Sudhasini Maharana submitted a petition in this regard to the Project Director in the District Collector’s Grievance Cell.
The Project Director directed the District Social Security Officer and District Supply Officer to consider the application seriously and take immediate action.
On the other hand, Rukuna said that if a small shop is built in her village with the help of the government, it will be convenient for them to earn a living.
Brunda was again hospitalised two days back and Rukuna requested the government to take care of her treatment. When asked, Korukonda BDO said that all cooperation will be given to them as per government’s provision. He assured to inform his superior officer for special assistance.
