Bhubaneswar: The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA), under Samagra Shiksha, has instructed all District Education Officers (DEOs)-cum-District Project Coordinators (DPCs) to organise and oversee the celebration of National Sports Day on August 29, 2025, in all schools and educational institutions across the state.

The day commemorates the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand, and is celebrated nationwide to promote a culture of sports and physical fitness among students.

In an official notification issued by the Additional Director (General) of OSEPA, the initiative was said to be in line with Government of India directives dated August 11, 2025. District officials have been asked to circulate detailed instructions and ensure wide participation at the grassroots level.

“The SOP and activity details of the programme are enclosed herewith for your ready reference. The ADEO (Scheme) is designated as the Nodal Officer for the observance of National Sports Day at all levels,” the notification stated.

To ensure uniform implementation, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) along with a list of suggested fitness and sports activities has been shared with all field officials. Schools are encouraged to host a variety of student-engaging programmes focused on fitness, teamwork, and the benefits of an active lifestyle.

After the celebrations, schools must submit a brief report along with photographs and video documentation. These can be emailed to contact@fitindia.gov.in or uploaded on the official Fit India portal at fitindia.gov.in/national-sports-day-2025.

OSEPA stressed that the day’s observance should embody the goals of the Fit India Movement, encouraging schools to generate enthusiasm and promote physical well-being among students.
