Jayapur (Koraput): A major accident occurred near Aunli village under Borigumma police limits in Koraput district after a passenger bus carrying 50 to 60 people lost control and overturned into a roadside field.
More than 15 passengers were injured in the mishap. The ‘Jaga Kalia’ bus was going from Chandahandi in Nabarangpur district to Gunupur. According to locals, the bus was heading towards Jayapur at high speed after getting delayed in Nabarangpur. Near Aunli village, the vehicle first hit the roadside divider and then overturned into a field.
Broken glass was strewn across the site, belongings were scattered everywhere, and the screams of the injured passengers filled the area.
Panic spread among those onboard after the accident. Some passengers were trapped inside the mangled bus, while others managed to come out on their own. People working in nearby fields were the first to reach the spot and began rescue operations. Later, fire brigade teams from Nabarangpur and Borigumma arrived and pulled out the passengers trapped inside.
The injured were sent to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital and Borigumma Hospital for treatment.
Borigumma police also reached the spot and have started an investigation into the cause of the accident. Officials said an inquiry is underway to ascertain what exactly led to the bus losing control.
