Bhubaneswar: As many as 2,14,878 voters will be exercising their franchise to elect their MLA in the bye election to be held for Brajrajnagar Assembly constituency tomorrow.
Polling will be held between 7 am to 6 pm at 279 booths. Of the total booths, 22 are new and 30 are model booths while 60 booths have been identified as ‘sensitive’, 5 are pink booths which will have only women polling agents.
To ensure free and fair voting, 1228 polling officers have been appointed. Meanwhile, 1000 police officials and 3 companies of central armed force have been deployed at different booths to maintain law and order.
Voting will be carried out following Covid norms with arrangements of sanitisers and thermal scanning at all polling booths.
According to Chief Electoral Officer Sushil Kumar Lohani a total of 61 micro observers will be deployed for the bypoll.
Further, live webcast will be conducted at 50% of the booths and videography will be also held at certain booths.
While 11 candidates are contesting the bypoll, a fierce fight is expected between BJD’s Alaka Mohanty, Congress’ Kishore Patel and BJP’s Radharani Panda.
It is pertinent to mention that the Brajrajnagar assembly seat had fallen vacant on December 31, 2021, due to the untimely demise of Kishore Mohanty.
BJD candidate Alaka Mohanty is Kishore Mohanty’s widow.
