Bhubaneswar: At least 20 people were injured in a hit-and-run accident near ITI Square in Talcher on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred around 4.15 pm, when a Hyundai Aura car driver broke through police barricades and collided with more than 20 vehicles, including motorcycles and scooters.
According to reports, the accident took place amid Ganesh Puja celebrations, with hundreds of devotees gathering in Talcher to witness the festival’s mandaps. The vehicle continued its reckless drive toward Bypass Square after the initial collision.
Talcher police swiftly responded to the scene and rushed the injured to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Talcher. Several critically injured victims were transferred to Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for further treatment.
Following a thorough investigation, police seized the vehicle and detained the driver, identified as 21-year-old Ansuman Sahoo of Hensamul village. Police are currently probing the circumstances that led to the accident.
