Sonepur: The Excise Department in Odisha’s Sonepur district on Thursday seized a huge quantity of ganja (marijuana) from an ambulance and arrested its driver during a raid at Kunja Chhack here.
According to Sumati Tripathi, Sonepur district Excise Officer, while on a patrol this morning, the excise sleuths saw an ambulance coming from Manumunda and tried to stop it. However, the driver of the ambulance sped the vehicle leading to a chase. Finally, the ambulance stopped at the Sadar Chhak.”
A thorough check of the ambulance revealed that it was transporting 420 packets of marijuana, each packet containing 1 kg of the contraband. The driver, identified as Upendra Sahu of Teliband village in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh, revealed that he was transporting the ganja from Manumund in Odisha’s Boudh district to Chhattisgarh.
The Excise officials seized the contraband and arrested the driver.
