Bhubaneswar: Over Rs 104.55 crore has been lost to cyber fraud in the last five years from 2018 to 2022 (up to February) in Odisha, according to data shared by Minister of State (MoS) for Home Tusharkanti Behera in the State Assembly today.
In reply to a query from BJD member Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, the MoS in a written reply said that a total of 6,567 cyber fraud cases were reported in the last five years in the State from 2018 to 2022 (up to February) and a total of Rs 1,04,55,53,958 was lost.
As per the information shared by the MoS in his reply, 2037, the maximum number of cyber frauds amounting to Rs 40,39,70,514 were reported in the year 2021.
Behera further said that as per Crime in India 2021 the rate of cyber crime in Odisha is 4.4 as against the rate of cyber crime of the country as a whole which stood at 3.9.
