Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has incurred a total loss of over Rs 45 Crore (Rs 454,672,347.24) in the last two years, as informed by Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena in the state assembly on Thursday.
In a written response to a query by Jeypore MLA and senior Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Minister Jena stated that OSRTC is currently operating a total of 388 buses across 260 routes.
He further elaborated that the state-run transport corporation experienced significant losses during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 fiscal years.
The Minister shared detailed data on the profit and loss suffered by OSRTC in the last two fiscal years. According to the data, OSRTC recorded a net turnover of Rs 145.28 Crore in the 2022-2023 fiscal year and Rs 156.44 Crore in the 2023-2024 fiscal year. However, the total expenditure was Rs 164.12 Crore in 2022-23 and Rs 183.07 Crore in 2023-24.
The total loss stood at Rs 18.83 Crore in 2022-23, and the corporation reported a loss of Rs 26.63 Crore in 2023-24. Thus, OSRTC faced an overall loss of Rs 45.47 Crore over the past two years.
