Over Rs 55 Lakh Cash Seized From Car In Binika, 6 Detained

Binika: Binika police in Subarnapur district late on Friday night seized Rs 55.20 lakh in cash being carried in a car to Andhra Pradesh. Police have also seized the car. The occupants of the car have been detained by the police.

Persons detained by the police have been identified as P Chandrasekhar (62), Banasa Venkat Gururaju (56), P Simadri (61), P Subhamya (92), P Channabi (50), and G Vinaykrishna (23) of Gouripudi village in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports, on Friday night while Binika police were conducting vehicle checks on the Dunguripalli-Sonepur main road near Binika College Chowk, it got a tip-off from reliable sources that a silver-coloured car was carrying carrying huge amount of cash. The car upon arriving at the checkpoint was stopped and searched by the police. During the search, a huge quantity of cash was recovered from the car.

Subarnapur SP Yashpratap Shrimal has told reporters that since the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in force in view of the upcoming elections no individual can carry a huge quantity of cash. Shrimal informed that the seized cash has been handed over to the Income Tax department and it will investigate and take appropriate action.
