Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended Dinabandhu Panda, the Tax Collector at Padamapur NAC in Bargarh district while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.
Panda had demanded the said amount from a person for transfer of holding number and reduction of annual holding tax in respect of purchased building in the name of the latter.
Based on a complaint by the said person, vigilance sleuths had laid a trap and caught Panda red-handed. The entire bribe money has been recovered from Panda and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous house searches were launched on properties of Panda at two places in Bargarh district. A case in this regard has been registered at Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station and investigation is underway.
