Bhubaneswar: The Department of Handlooms, Textiles & Handicraft has appealed to all department staff and district officials to wear Odisha handwoven fabrics on August 7 and beyond to celebrate National Handloom Day.

In a letter, Principal Secretary Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee requested officials and staff to wear Odisha handwoven clothing at least once a week to promote the state’s rich handloom heritage.

National Handloom Day, observed on August 7, commemorates the 1905 Swadeshi Movement and honours handloom weavers. The state government is celebrating this day with a special discount offer on Odisha handwoven products from August 7 to 15, through various stores and e-commerce platforms like of Boyanika (www.boyanika.com), Utkalika (www. utkalikaodisha.com), Sambalpuri Bastralaya(www.sambalpuribastralaya.com) and Amlan (www. amlanodisha.com).

Staff are encouraged to share photos wearing Odisha handwoven fabrics on social media using hashtags #MyProductMyPride and #MyHandloomMyPride to support local weavers.

The government has requested widespread dissemination of this appeal among all staff, officials, and agencies, including PSUs, autonomous bodies, and subordinate organizations
