Nuapada: Police have clamped section 144 CrPC after violence broke out in Ward no.3 Poyer village under Komna block in Nuapada district during the second phase three-tier panchayat elections in the State today.
According to reports, violence broke out in Poyer village when the Presiding Officer attempted to transport the ballot box in his vehicle after polling was over.
As the polling vehicle got delayed in reaching the booth after polling was over, the Presiding Officer wanted to carry the ballot box in his vehicle.
Enraged over the transport of ballot box in a private vehicle, villagers smashed the windshield of the Presiding Officer’s vehicle.
Police have rescued the polling personnel and transported the ballot box safely to the block office at Komna.
As tension prevails in the area, police have imposed section 144 CrPC and are keeping a close watch over the situation. While there is heavy police deployment in the area after the incident, no arrests have been made so far.
