Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Legislative Assembly was adjourned till Monday after the afternoon session witnessed heavy pandemonium and repeated adjournments today with Opposition members creating ruckus.
The session commenced under chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi. However, immediately after proceedings began, Opposition leaders staged a protest, creating an uproar in the House. In response to the noise, the Deputy Speaker called an all-party meeting at 4:00 PM and adjourned the House.
Despite efforts to restore order, normal proceedings could not be resumed and the House faced a series of subsequent adjournments. After the all-party meeting failed to resolve the impasse, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the House till Monday.
The all-party meeting was convened in the Deputy Speaker’s chamber to break the deadlock. Several key leaders attended on his invitation, including Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Government Chief Whip Saroj Pradhan, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, Prasanna Acharya, Pratap Deb, Congress Legislature Party Leader Rama Chandra Kadam and CPI leader Laxman Munda.
