Bhubaneswar: The State government will appoint para-legal volunteers in every Panchayat across the state to provide initial legal assistance to women victims of crime.
This initiative aims to empower ordinary families and tribal communities by educating them about their legal rights. It was decided at a meeting between the Law Department and the Women and Child Development Department, chaired by Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, on Tuesday.
Harichanda said that the para-legal volunteers will play a crucial role in supporting women who face harassment or domestic violence.
They will provide initial support and guidance to women, helping them navigate the legal system, including filing complaints at police stations and courts. Anganwadi workers will collaborate with para-legal volunteers to educate women about their rights.
The meeting discussed the importance of providing legal aid to vulnerable communities.
The government plans to involve the Panchayat Raj and SC/ST departments in this program soon, expanding its reach and impact. By empowering women with knowledge of their rights and providing them with support, the government aims to create a safer and more equitable society.
