Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police made history today by successfully unfurling the tricolour in 10 uninhabited islands off the Odisha coast, on the eve of the 76th Republic Day.
This patriotic endeavour was undertaken under the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the dynamic guidance of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The broad objective of the Prime Minister was that the uninhabited island should not be unguarded so that the authorities know what activities are going on there.
The 10 islands that participated in this celebration are Subarna Dwipa of Balasore district, Nayatapu Dwipa, Udabali Dwipa, Kanika Dwipa, Long Wheeler, Short Island, Small Wheeler in Bhadrak district, and Boitarakuda Dwipa, Jatadharitanda, and Barakuda of Jagatsinghpur district. By unfurling the tricolour in these islands, Odisha Police took Odia Ashmita to new heights, amidst the recital of the national anthem.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s innovative idea to unfurl the tricolour in uninhabited islands has sparked patriotism across the country. Odisha Police, representing the people of Odisha, has brought laurels to the state by unfurling the national flag in these islands,” CM Mohan Majhi said.
DGP Y.B. Khurania had earlier said the police conducted a survey by visiting 10 such Islands and made all arrangements for hoisting the national flag.
Notably, this is the first time in the country that the tricolour has been unfurled in uninhabited islands. On the occasion of the All India DGP Conference in Odisha in November 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed to hoist the National Flag on or before Republic Day in uninhabited islands in coastal States.
