Malkangiri: A Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) was allegedly attacked by a housing scheme beneficiary in Bonda Ghati area under Khairaput block in Malkangiri district.
According to reports, Bijay Panda, PEO of Mudulipada Panchayat, was visiting villages on a holiday to urge beneficiaries to complete their houses under the central government housing scheme at the earliest, following government instructions.
While he was explaining the matter to beneficiaries at Dantipada village, one beneficiary reportedly attacked him with a knife. As the PEO tried to escape, the accused also pelted stones at him. Somehow managing to escape from the spot, the injured PEO reached Khairaput Community Health Centre for treatment. He later informed the Khairput Block Development Officer (BDO) about the incident and lodged a written complaint at Mudulipada police station.
