Paradip: A major petrol spill was reported at the restricted area of Paradip Port on Friday after a pipeline carrying fuel allegedly burst during a transfer operation, officials said.
According to preliminary information, petrol was being transferred from a ship to the oil terminal through a pipeline when the incident occurred. Thousands of litres of petrol reportedly spilled following the rupture.
Sources said the pipeline may have burst due to excessive pressure during the transfer process, though the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed.
Personnel from the CISF deployed at the port, the Fire Services Department, and the fire wing of Indian Oil Corporation Limited rushed to the spot after the leakage was detected.
Authorities have put in place extensive security arrangements in and around the affected area due to the risk of fire and explosion. Emergency response teams are closely monitoring the situation and efforts are underway to prevent any untoward incident.
Information received indicated that the fuel was being supplied to the IOCL oil terminal at the time of the incident. No casualties or injuries had been reported till the filing of this report.
