Bhubaneswar: Ahead of Phase III Odisha elections scheduled to be held on May 25 in the state, Commissionerate Police has beefed up security arrangements in the state capital as part of its measure to avoid violence during polling.
According to sources, police have increased security measures to ensure free and fair polling at 1,132 booths in Bhubaneswar coming under the jurisdiction of Commissionerate Police. Also, special measures have been taken for safe elections at 145 sensitive booths and 421 Sakhi booths in Bhubaneswar. And webcasting will be held in 525 polling booths.
As per CP decision, 15 flying squads and 15 strategic surveillance teams will be in action to make the election violence-free. Besides, CRPF personnel will be deployed at sensitive booths. Security cover will be tightened following the end of poll campaigning on May 23 evening.
Police Commissioner Sanjeev Panda said, “Polling will be held at five assembly constituencies in Bhubaneswar. Out of 1,132 polling booths, 145 booths have been identified as sensitive booths. CRPF personnel will be deployed at the sensitive booths. In a bid to make elections free from violence, 15 flying squads and 15 strategic surveillance teams are working round-the-clock. We will intensify checking after the end of campaigning.”
