Bhubaneswar: A highly qualified man identified as Manoj Kumar Majhi has been arrested by the STF of Odisha Police for extortion. Majhi is an MSc in Chemistry and also holds a PhD but he used to identify himself as a Vigilance officer for extortion.
In a recent case filed by an Assistant Chief Engineer in Odisha Government, Majhi was named as an accused and arrested by the STF from his village Phulbari in Puri district. During the course of the examination, Majhi admitted to having extorted money from high-ranking officials.
A native of Puri’s Krushna Prasad block, Majhi demanded Rs 1 crore from the aforementioned Assistant CE threatening him with arrest on charges of corruption.
“He mostly targeted government officials and contractors, impersonating himself as a senior vigilance officer. It is also being ascertained that the accused had cheated some persons promising to arrange government jobs,” the STF stated.
“The investigation, so far, reveals that Majhi is a highly qualified person having qualification of MSc in Chemistry & Ph.D. Degree from Sambalpur University. He was arrested and forwarded to the Court of SDJM Bhubaneswar on Sunday.”
