Cuttack: The issue of brutal lathicharge by the police on the villagers of Dhinkia in Jagatsinghpur district opposing land acquisition for the JSW project reached the Orissa High Court today.
Two PILs were filed in the High Court in this connection today.
The PILs were filed by lawyers Khirod Kumar Rout, Deepak Kumar Mohapatra and Kabiraj Pradhan.
The Chief Secretary, Revenue Secretary, DG Police, Jagatsinghpur SP, Erasama Tahasildar, and JSW have been made parties in the PILs.
The PILs seek protection of human rights, impartial inquiry into the lathicharge by the police, adequate compensation to the affected farmers, free treatment of injured, withdrawal of police forces from Dhinkia, and end to forceful land acquisition.
The petitioners have prayed the court to issue directions for proper implementation of land acquisition law, stay the demolition of betel vine plantations, and eviction of people till the next order of the court.
