Bhubaneswar: A woman who attempted self-immolation by pouring kerosene on herself and setting herself afire at Pipili in Puri district has succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Monday.
According to reports, the incident occurred on August 13 at Jaypur Chowk in Pipili. The woman was rushed to Pipili Community Health Centre with severe burn injuries and was later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar as her condition deteriorated. Despite medical efforts, she died six days after the incident while undergoing treatment at AIIMS.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) confirmed that the woman had attempted self-immolation allegedly due to debt-related stress. A suicide note and a kerosene bottle were recovered from the scene of the incident.
The woman, with burns covering approximately 80–90% of her body, was put on a ventilator. Police had attempted to record her statement last night but found her unable to speak.
