Malkangiri: A misguided plan to gift iPhones to their girlfriends ended in jail time for two youths from Telangana, after MV-79 police in Malkangiri district caught them trafficking ganja during a daytime patrol.
The incident occurred at Lachipeta Chhak, where police intercepted an Activa scooter on suspicion. Upon checking, officers discovered 22 kg of ganja, valued at around ₹1.5 lakh, concealed in the vehicle.
The arrested individuals have been identified as T. Trinath Kumar and B. Yuvacharan Aditya, both hailing from Khammam district of Telangana. Police said the duo was taking the contraband back to Telangana, intending to sell it and use the proceeds to purchase iPhones as birthday gifts for their girlfriends.
The scooter used in the smuggling attempt has been seized, and both youths have been produced before court. Further investigation is underway.
