Orissa High Court

Cuttack: In an exemplary order, the Orissa High Court has directed a man accused in a robbery case to plant 100 saplings with maintenance and clean the Capital Hospital ward as conditions for availing regular bail.

The accused, Bigyan Ranjan Das, who has been in judicial custody since January in a car theft case, must adhere to the court’s directive to be released on bail. The Court also clarified that violation of the conditions will entail the cancellation of the bail.

In the order, the bench of Justice SK Panigrahi stated, “The petitioner shall plant 100 saplings of local varieties like mango, neem, tamarind, etc., in the ensuing monsoon around the Dumduma area on government land/community land/private land, if it is in the possession of the petitioner or his family members. In case of unavailability of land, the Revenue Authority shall assist in identifying the land for plantation.”

The accused would maintain the saplings for two years, the court stated. The IIC of Info Valley police station has been directed to monitor his plantation activities.

The court also directed the accused Das to clean the rooms and wards of Capital Hospital for a month. The accused would approach the Superintendent of Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, who would facilitate the petitioner for cleaning the hospital rooms and wards for one month by issuing suitable instructions to the concerned subordinate staff.
