Bhubaneswar: The 15-year-old Plus II girl student, who was set afire by miscreants at Balanga in Puri district, has sustained 70 per cent burns, according to doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.
According to AIIMS sources, the victim was rushed to the emergency department of the hospital in critical condition on Saturday, with approximately 70% Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) burns. She has since been shifted to the Burn Centre for further treatment.
Notably, the incident occurred earlier on Saturday morning when the girl was walking to her friend’s house at Bayabara village under Balanga police station in Puri district.
Eyewitnesses reported that three miscreants intercepted the girl, poured a flammable substance on her, and set her ablaze before fleeing the scene.
Locals quickly rushed her to Pipili hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for specialised care.
Balanga police are currently investigating the incident and are working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The Collector has assured that all necessary actions will be taken to ensure justice for the victim.
