Kataka: A Plus II Science student was found hanging inside a private college hostel in CDA Sector-10 here on Wednesday, with his family alleging foul play and claiming that he had earlier complained of threats from fellow students.
The deceased was identified as Chinmaya Sahoo, a Plus II Science student of the college.
According to sources, Chinmaya was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside the hostel. He was rescued and rushed to a nearby medical facility, where doctors declared him dead. The exact circumstances leading to his death are yet to be ascertained.
Chinmaya’s father alleged that he received a call from a college teacher, identified as Sangram, on Tuesday, informing him that his son’s health was not good and asking him to come to the college.
“My son was studying Plus II Science at a private college. A teacher, Sangram, called me and said my son’s health was not good and asked me to come. I repeatedly requested to speak to my son over the phone, but they did not connect the call. When our family members reached the college, we were told that my son had been taken to a hospital,” he said.
The family alleged that Chinmaya had earlier told them that some students at the hostel had threatened to assault him. His father said he had advised his son to inform the college authorities about the matter.
“I suspect foul play in my son’s death. He had earlier told me that some students in the hostel had threatened him. I had asked him to inform the teachers. I suspect that around 25 students may have attacked him,” the father alleged.
The family subsequently approached CDA Phase-II Model Police Station and lodged a complaint, seeking a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Chinmaya’s death.
The family has demanded justice and strict action against anyone found responsible.
