Baripada: In a shocking incident, a college student allegedly hanged herself after being scolded by her mother over her studies at Manatapal village under Betnoti police station in Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased has been identified as Laxmimani Murmu, a Plus-III final-year student at Mahatma Gandhi Degree College in Baisinga.
While the exact cause of the suicide attempt is yet to be determined, preliminary investigations suggest that a spat with her mother over studies led her to take the extreme step.
According to reports, she was allegedly abused by her mother, Balmhi Murmu, over her studies on Wednesday afternoon. Upset, Laxmimani tried to hang herself in her room. Her family members found her in a hanging position and rushed her to Betnoti hospital, where she was admitted in a critical condition.
The doctors have referred her to the District Headquarters Hospital in Baripada as her condition was critical.
