Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today showered praise on two inspiring individuals from Odisha — Om Prakash Rath from Kendrapara and Sujata Bhuyan from Sambalpur — during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat.
The Prime Minister highlighted their remarkable contributions to nation-building and grassroots innovation, underscoring the power of India’s youth and women in driving inclusive growth.
Focusing on the energy and potential of young Indians, PM Modi spoke at length about the resounding success of the MY Bharat “Budget Quest” 2026 initiative. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 12 lakh young people across the country. It aimed to actively connect the youth with policymaking and the Union Budget process.
Out of the massive participation, around 1.6 lakh youngsters were shortlisted for an essay competition, reflecting the deep thought, creativity, and commitment of India’s youth towards national development.
Among the standout contributors, the Prime Minister specially mentioned Om Prakash Rath from Kendrapara, Odisha. Rath’s essay presented thoughtful ideas on advancing women-led development. PM Modi noted that such contributions from bright young minds illustrate a strong dedication to inclusive growth and the overall progress of the nation.
Participants from various states shared insightful perspectives on a wide range of crucial topics, including farmer welfare, green development, sports talent identification, skill development, and ease of doing business. These essays showcased the diverse and forward-looking vision of India’s youth.
In the same address, PM Modi also celebrated the inspiring journey of Sujata Bhuyan from Sambalpur. Starting as a homemaker, Sujata ventured into fish farming in the Hirakud reservoir. She overcame numerous challenges — including unpredictable weather, resource management issues, and the dual responsibility of household duties — to build a successful enterprise in just a few years.
The Prime Minister described her story as a shining example of determination, resilience, and grassroots innovation. He emphasized how her success is motivating many other women in rural and semi-urban areas to explore similar entrepreneurial opportunities and achieve economic independence.
PM Modi further highlighted the broader importance of the fisheries sector in building a self-reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat). He pointed out that various government initiatives — such as better port infrastructure, insurance coverage, and technology-based weather support — are empowering fishermen and fish farmers to boost productivity and build resilience against uncertainties.
