Baripada: A 32-year-old poacher from Badkhaman village in Udala police station area of Mayurbhanj district, surrendered before the Investigating Officer along with his country-made gun and ammunition.
This development follows the poacher’s identification through active intelligence collected by the Similipal Wildlife Intelligence Network (SWIN) after he was captured on camera.
The accused, Balia Singh alias Tukuna, had been issued a notice to appear before the Investigating Officer, and due to constant pursuit, he finally surrendered in the presence of the Sarpanch of Badakhaman Gram Panchayat. A wildlife case has been registered against him for illegal entry into the sanctuary with firearms.
Furthermore, an FIR will be lodged against him at the Udala Police Station for violating the Arms Act. The Similipal Tiger Reserve authorities have been utilizing advanced surveillance technology, including AI-enabled cameras, to detect and prevent poaching attempts, showcasing their commitment to protecting wildlife.
