Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a crucial meeting with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh on May 28 to discuss the long-pending Polavaram Project.
As per reports, this will be the first time the Prime Minister directly engages with the Chief Ministers of all four states on this issue. The project, a multipurpose irrigation and hydroelectric venture in Andhra Pradesh, has been embroiled in disputes for years, with Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana raising objections.
Sources indicate that the Chief Secretaries of the respective states have already been briefed about the upcoming meeting via video conferencing. The meeting will be attended by the Chief Ministers, Irrigation Ministers, and senior officials of the states, as well as top representatives from the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, the Central Water Commission, and the Polavajayam Project Authority.
Ahead of the meeting, Odisha has held a preparatory session under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to finalise its stance.
It is learnt that several petitions filed by Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Telangana regarding the Polavaram Project are currently pending in the Supreme Court.
