Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested a high-profile robber responsible for stealing cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 50 lakhs from the residence of senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik.
After 19 days of burglary, police arrested the thief from Vijayawada.
According to reports, miscreants broke into Patnaik’s N/29 residence at IRC Village and decamped with gold ornaments and other valuables worth over Rs 50 lakh. Patnaik and his wife were asleep on the ground floor when the burglary took place on January 26.
A similar attempt was allegedly made at another house of the senior Congress leader in the same area on January 29 night.
The thief has been identified as 35-year-old Satish Reddy. His movements were captured on CCTV cameras installed in the house. Police officials stated that he had also targeted another millionaire’s residence before striking Patnaik’s house.
Police have recovered stolen items from the burglar who allegedly decamped with valuables from former Congress State President Patnaik’s home in the upscale VIP Colony within Nayapalli police jurisdiction.
